Man dies in Thunder Bay house fire

A 39-year-old man is dead after a house fire on Thunder Bay's south side Thursday morning.

At about 4:30 a.m., firefighters were called to West Victoria Avenue and saw smoke coming from the eaves of a residence.

The crew extinguished the blaze.

During a search of the building they found an unconscious man who appeared to be suffering from heat and smoke inhalation. The man was taken to hospital, but later died. Police have not released his identity.

The building sustained heavy fire, heat and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshall's office.
