Kaitlyn Soules will be honoured once more.

The 13-year-old Barrie resident will receive a Fire Safety Action Award from the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony in Toronto June 1. The awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.

Soules also received Barrie’s Award of Merit in January.

Early on the morning of June 14, 2016, she awoke to the smell of smoke in her home. Soules sprang out of bed and quickly woke her father Dennis and brothers Dennis

Jr. and Gordon, getting them out of the house safely before the fire engulfed their home. The house was destroyed, but the family survived.

“Her determination to ensure her family got out of the burning home safely likely prevented a tragedy,” council chair Ross Nichols said.
